ABOUT THE HOSPITAL

Ohmatdyt National Specialized Children's Hospital - is the largest children's hospital in Ukraine. It is a multiple diagnostic and treatment facility that provides specialized, highly qualified

medical care for children in Ukraine. Ohmatdyt provides a full range of medical care.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Ohmatdyt has been accepting children and adults with war injuries, such as gunshot and shrapnel wounds, amputations, mine-blast injuries, complex skeletal injuries, burns and brain injuries. The hospital also treats the most serious patients with cancer, children with severe neurosurgical and orthopedic diagnoses, and children with rare diseases.

The hospital will receive a large number of children who constantly need hemodialysis, young patients with severe autoimmune diseases, children who need transplants and, of course, after February 24, 2022 - children affected by the hostilities.

Thanks to the Rehabilitation Center, Ohmatdyt became the first state institution to provide rehabilitation services for patients on the second day after surgery and the first to provide physical therapy in intensive care units. Currently, Ohmatdyt has many modern evidence-based rehabilitation techniques, which significantly speeds up the process of recovery and rehabilitation of patients.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

As a result of the russian aggression, the hospital is overcrowded with young patients, who have been under occupation or have suffered* from enemy shelling and need long-term rehabilitation and must be under constant supervision of professionals at the Rehabilitation Center.

Today, work with such patients is not carried out in one department; children are "placed" throughout the hospital, where there are free places. This significantly complicates the rehabilitation process, reduces its duration and efficiency, and often makes it impossible to use the necessary modern rehabilitation techniques.

From February 24, 2022 to October 26, 2023, more than 1,648 children were injured as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine: 509 children died and more than 1,139 were injured of various degrees of severity (according to official information of juvenile prosecutors).

SOLUTION DESCRIPTION

Ohmatdyt together with Lviv Defense Cluster have started raising funds to create a Rehabilitation Center with a stationary unit for children affected by war.

The project includes major repair of the facility, purchase of appropriate medical and rehabilitation equipment. Implementation of the project will allow patients to undergo efficient rehabilitation in comfortable conditions, using modern evidence-based techniques; little patients will recover faster and come back to full normal childhood and life.

LDC AND OHMATDYT

Lviv Defense Cluster began issuing the first mass-produced bulletproof vests for the evacuation of children from the war zone in December 2022. Ohmatdyt also asked for help, so LDC handed over 12 evacuation kits for children and 16 bulletproof vests for doctors, who will accompany the children during the evacuation.

LDC specialists have familiarized themselves with the conditions in which the patients undergoing

rehabilitation live now. It became clear that the hospital needs help with creating a specialized Center.

In total, Lviv Defense Cluster has produced and donated more than 95,000 bulletproof vests of the 4th class of protection to the Ukrainian Defense Forces since March 2022. 3200 anti-debris medical vests and 550 evacuation kits were handed over to the relevant services.
